Would I be stretching my credibility if I told you I’ve been reading the Campmor Catalog? If you like to go camping, you might remember it. It looked like this.
So why do I have one of these?
It all started in 1999 when I was working at Highland Books in Brevard. It must have been close to closing time, when business had slowed down and Tim had switched the radio from store music to blues or jazz. He started talking with us about what people around the world were doing to prepare for the coming millennium crisis, or, as I was to learn, for Y2K. That winter there would be shortages of all kinds, food, fuel and electricity.
It must have been then that I started shopping for a 10-degree-proof sleeping bag, and somehow I received my first Campmor catalog in the mail.
Inside my 1914 edition you can read about the Eureka Sunrise 2-Pole Free-Standing Dome. This tent has 4 windows, a Large “D”-Style Door, a Bathtub Floor, a gear hammock (12” x 40”), High Stash pockets (front and rear), and the Eureka! Media Center. The Dome comes in “Snorkel blue and blue pearl”, $299.00 for the Sunrise 6 model (sleeps 6).
Or consider the Kurgo Wander Bed for Dogs. It has a carry handle and a “Hidden YKK zipper pocket for carrying a toy”, and comes in M ($49.99) and L ($59.99).
You may remember that Y2K came and went just fine. And I still have the sleeping bag, and one or two Campmor catalogs to read.
