Some of my favorite Christmas cards over the years came about since Sam and I moved to the mountains.
Down the hill from our house is a small pond where the grandchildren swim in the summer. And Sam has been known to dive in there in his shorts on his birthday — on January 1st!
One winter I mused, “What might be going on at the pond while we’re up here snow-bound in the house, drinking hot chocolate and reading garden catalogs in front of the fireplace?”
This!
Another year, the little pigs decorated their Christmas tree.
One of our first holiday cards was a message of happy abandon, a blissful flying pig. I want to share it again here with our friends and family, who are in our hearts all year round. A flight of fancy!
Whatever festival you celebrate during these shortest days of the year, I hope you will find moments to embrace your people and your pets, and your heart’s best memories, and quietly let the outside world go on about its endless reckoning.
I LOVE these piggie drawings!
