Make a Special Memory Match Game for the Holidays
Children can help make this and will love to play it
When I was a member of #7 Arts in Brevard in the early 2000’s I made a Transylvania Memory Match Game with pairs of tiles showing things around Brevard, in the Forest and out in the county.
It took me a long time to print the artwork, glue it to mat board squares, put on a finish, and cut them apart. So I finally called a company in New Jersey that produces game tiles. I asked what their minimum order was and I still remember their reply, “Do you have a loading dock to receive the delivery?”
Since then I’ve made matching games for our families to play when they visit. The grandchildren love them because I included photos of them when they were younger, along with scenes from past visits to our house.
And here’s a much easier way to put one together. Start with a pack of playing cards. For this example I’m using 18 new playing cards and 9 pictures from my photo files.
Make duplicate prints from your personal collection and cut them to cover the fronts of the cards. Children can help. Glue the pictures with an Elmer’s Craft Bond glue stick or a thin layer of PVA white glue. If the playing cards are too slick, you can sand them lightly with fine sandpaper before gluing. Press the cards under books or other weights to help them dry flat if they need it.
You’ll probably want to use more than 9 pairs of pictures. Remember you have 52 cards, 54 with the Jokers!
If you enjoy doing this project, think about using photos of someone’s hobby, or travel photos. What if you made a set of Old Maid cards? Personalized, of course!
What a great idea, love it!
You are toooo ...talented!!! (Meant in a good way.)
