The Resistance Begins Today - in North Carolina
Why 60,000 voters' names are being read aloud, from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 tonight
North Carolina is on the front lines in the war against democracy in the United States. It’s extraordinary.
This morning activists gathered in Raleigh, standing across the street from the State Legislative Building. At 6:00 a.m. they began reading aloud the names of over 60,000 voters whose legitimate votes have been threatened by the State Supreme Court candidate who lost the election, a Republican named Jefferson Griffin.
The activists plan to keep reading until 11:00 tonight. You can see the livestream on YouTube.

Why is Griffin attempting this brazen violation of our voting system? A reporter for AOL writes,
Griffin claims that voters whose records don’t include a Social Security number or driver’s license number should have been ineligible to vote – even though all were registered (many for decades) and had to show a photo ID to vote.
The claim is so farfetched that a Republican NC Supreme Court Justice called it “almost certainly meritless.”

Here’s what happened.
Right after the November 5th election, Griffin was ahead by 8,000 votes. By mid-November, the canvass showed that Riggs had won by 734 votes. But on the 19th, Griffin demanded a recount; also, he challenged 60,000 legitimate voters.
On December 3, the county-by-county recount showed no change, as did a second recount on the 10th. As a citizen witness, I attended both public recounts at our county Board of Elections, as well as a related preliminary hearing there.
NC Supreme Court Associate Justice Allison Riggs has said she’s not giving up, not after she and all of us have done so much to bring about her peaceful, lawful certification. We’re not giving up, either.
Right now there are three things you can do.
Be in solidarity with the voters whose names are being read today in Raleigh by tuning into the Can’t Win Victory Fund YouTube livestream (link is below in the notes). You also can find in the notes a link to a PDF list of NC voters’ names by county. In my county, Transylvania, 123 voters are named. If you find you are on your county list, contact your local party if you want to share your experience. Learn all you can now, and be ready to object if for some reason Riggs is not certified.
Register for the online Special Town Hall Event hosted by Common Cause NC Thursday, January 23, at 6:30 p.m. “to learn more about this case, to hear from impacted voters, and to find out what you can do next.” The link is below in the notes.
Contribute to Associate Justice Riggs’ legal defense fund through the NC Democratic Party link, also below in the notes.
America and the rest of the free world are watching while the North Carolina Republicans’ attack on our lawful voting process plays out in court. It shouldn’t have to. American Democracy is on the line.
Thank you so very much!
Thank you for keeping us informed, Deda. We will contribute immediately!
