Veils: Little Gallery #2
Do we still feel the same about women as we did right after 9/11? I say no. But maybe yes.
Since I made this book, I’ve always wanted to see it as a walk-through gallery experience. When you turn a corner around a white freestanding wall, you see the next very large image, and so on. Not a lot of color, very quiet.
Don’t rush through. Stop and think about what you see. It’s a combination of innocence and the deadly serious.
This is my second Little Gallery show for Postcards. Begin with the Artist’s Statement:
This exhibition grew out of a book I made in the days right after 9/11. The newspapers were full of reports about the Middle East and I learned a lot about what a woman’s life was like there. I also discovered how much I, as an American woman, felt I had in common with her. You or your friend might feel the same.
We can see there is more to Veils, much more, but time has passed and now the gallery attendant is telling us it’s closing time.
The late afternoon sun out on the street is disorienting. We don’t talk about the exhibition just yet. That’s ok, the silence seems natural. I have a lot to think about and be grateful for. And to strengthen in myself.
