I thought I’d take a break from the news today to go look on my shelves, not for books this time, but for my vintage (it was so long ago) yard sale souvenirs. It was an adventure finding these things before another shopper did, and cost only a couple of dollars (the mirror) or less (almost everything else).
They remind me of the fun of discovery, a great distraction from the work week.
A ceramic ornament, 4” long
This is the mirror I told you about. One-of-a-kind from the glamorous city, and well worth $2.00. I photographed it outside, reflecting clouds. 10” wide x 13” high
These heavy Art Deco bookends must be plaster because a nose chipped a few years ago and I keep meaning to patch it. But the elegance!
A sweet little cardboard box with wonderful patterns and a feeling of wood. 3½” high
I love this little cloth angel. I photographed her by the blueberry bushes but in the house she sits on the shelf by TheOxford English Dictionary. She’s 6” high
My crème de la crème! A handbag with (fake) fur and feathers. The handle’s folded on top out of sight. L’esprit d’amusement!
Please Comment below if you remember a favorite yard sale find. You got to it first! Do you still have it?
Oh! What feelings these wonderful treasures evoke. I have many such, tucked here and there. I can't remember the first, but they are all my favorite. I would proudly carry your "leopard and feather bag" this day. I do have an art nouveau clock designed with a nymph like girl kneeling with her arms around the clock. Doesn't work...I don't mind.
