Love this and her. I experienced a similar injury so have always felt a kinship in her art. And there's a great documentary on her on PBS now, "Becoming Frida Kahlo". Worth checking out!
Dee, I'm sorry to hear about your injury. I can tell from what you say, that you have great positive energy not only to heal, but to share encouraging words. I'm looking forward to watching the PBS series. Thank you!
I have a niece by marriage, herself an artist, who has shared with me her Frieda Kahlo passion--even dressing and making herself up to look like her for a special party she attended. She will enjoy this column! I had a momentary thought to give her this book as a gift...but 12 lbs. and 600+ pages is no spur-of-the moment purchase! But thanks also to Taschen books for doing these amazing kinds of books...and to a kind husband for schlepping home such a tome!
Helen, I'm intrigued that your niece put together a Frida Kahlo outfit, makeup and everything, I assume. I imagine she felt (and demonstrated) the Kahlo attitude, too. It must have been fun! Thanks for your comment.
One cannot help but being intrigued by this amazing artist. I wonder what Frida Kahlo would have thought about the abortion issue of today. How would she have responded to MAGA people? She remains a mystery to me, but I am well aware of her deep suffering.
Linda, you make me wonder, too, what Kahlo would think about today's fraught issues. I'm not sure, but she would probably make it personal. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this!
Fascinating piece, Deda! I've long been intrigued by Frida Kahlo but have known little. I can imagine the pleasure of thumbing through this massive book of color and story. Thanks for sharing this discovery.

I'm glad you share my fascination with this exotic (yet somehow familiar) artist. Thank you for your thoughts, Carter.
