I voted for Katie Dean on the first day of early voting. I agree she had a poor showing in the debate. However, Jasmine is a more experienced politician and I believe Katie will be a quick study get up to speed in a short period of time.
I like Jasmine but I think Democrats have a tendency to vote in the primaries for the candidate we like but not for the one that can win. I believe Jasmine will be far more polarizing than Katie. I can assure you Jasmine will galvanize the religious right and they will come out from under every rock to vote for Madison Cawthorn. We are going to need a lot of Unaffiliated voters to vote with us and I believe Katie can pull those voters into the Democrats camp. The Fire Madison Cawthorn group has endorsed Katie Dean.
Patty, yes, you're right, we will need lots of unaffiliated voters in the general election. I hadn't thought about that group in relation to this race! I hope the Democrats 100% support our candidate, and that the winner finds a way to strengthen her weak spots (regarding the voter populations).
I voted for her on Saturday, during early voting in Polk County. Katie came to a Polk County Democratic Party Candidate Forum. She was awesome. I really liked the other candidates (Dem Party) and will very happily vote for any of them if Katie does not win, however, Katie is impressive on every issue and she has really done the work of knowing the issues and her (possible) constituents. It will break my heart if this really smart, capable woman loses to any of the Republican candidates.
I'm interested in your thoughts on hearing Katie in Polk County. She definitely is a smart, capable woman and I hope she has a long career in politics.
I was deeply impressed by Katie at the Polk Dems Candidate Forum. She was very focused on issues and on her campaign strategy. Our audience had some hard questions and even challenges; she came back calmly and appropriately with facts and figures that reflected deep preparation and understanding. She identified healthcare as a key issue and had a great personal story followed by clear solutions (see her website). I was especially impressed by her understanding of the fact that wealth inequality and the subsequent concentration of power must be addressed--she named names and described specifically the effects on Polk County residents.
Mary, I was interested in writing about the two women candidates who spoke recently at both our Transylvania County Democratic Party monthly meeting and the monthly meeting of the Transylvania County Democratic Women. So it's a local report in a way. But I will support the Democratic woman who wins the Senate primary, I'm that confident!
Deda, I have been impressed with Katie when I heard her speak. Then I saw her in a televised debate. She stumbled badly. I am inclined to vote for Jasmine who is well-qualified and comes across as very competent. Would love to chat about this!

Liz, thank you for describing Katie's presentation at this forum for those who missed it. What you say also shows her courage.
Thank you for your good intro to two dedicated women. The stakes are high. Are you looking at Democratic Senate race as well?
