You reminded me of the various styles of gardens in Europe. America inherited the English love for subtitle structure and planned perspective. I like that too, but the wilder, overflowing bounty of gardens in Tuscany. Thanks and hugs.
Jeb, my memory of Edith Wharton's book on old Italian gardens is more of rigorous confinement than beauty (maybe it had black and white photos). Am I on the right track? This would definitely not be true about your "wilder gardens in Tuscany"!
Researched... You're right. Classical Italian gardens are very ordered. My personal experience led me astray. It's when those classic gardens become a bit wild, overgrown, and decadent that I relate to them, being a bit overgrown and decadent myself.
Gardening season is my favorite season! Thanks for sharing your beauty. Surprises every day. Just yesterday I started Asian eggplant seeds. The pots are under a fluorescent fixture with 4 skinny tubes, new for me since gardening under fat tubed lights for over 50 years. With the lack of enough sun hours here in the woods, there aren't many veggies I can grow (herbs are easier) I find eggplants the most satisfactory because even though they grow leggily, they do produce quite a number of fruit right up to frost. I learned not to put them in the ground under the nights are over 50 degrees or they will just sit and do nothing. They're so pretty, too.
Will do. I think when I moved basil seedlings under specially strong light (Agrobrite 4 bulb fixture) I had the new "Active" GE 6500K bulbs too close to the basil seedlings and the leaves got contorted. (They were actually burning under the Agrobrite bulbs, which are also hot.) I moved up the lights and the plants seem to be doing better. I will send you a picture of what they look like when I'm not embarrassed by them!
Lovely - So much to contemplate. Thank you
As always, Deda, a beautiful Postcard for the eyes and for the spirit. Thank you!
Another wonderful posting, Deda. Your photos are beautiful! Such a great way to start my day. Thank you!
Absolutely wonderful, Deda!
Our large potting box is named Beatrix.
Linda, it's so much fun that you have Beatrix in your garden!

I'd like to hear later if your new lights work well, Isabel Thank you for your encouragement to grow - and enjoy - eggplants. " Pretty" is important!
